Advanced Academics

About Advanced Academics

Alief offers many program options for advanced level students through the Advanced Academics Department. Students who are identified as gifted through the district's screening process are eligible for gifted services.  At the elementary level, identified students are serviced through pull-out and push-in models and full-time inclusion.  At our intermediate campuses, gifted students participate in the AIMS program, our full-time gifted class model.  Secondary G/T students engage in our most rigorous academic coursework: Alief Advanced Academic Courses (Alief AAC), Advanced Placement (AP) classes, and/or Dual Credit courses.

Mission & Goals

The goal of Alief’s Advanced Academics Department is to provide differentiated opportunities for students to elaborate, think originally, think flexibly, and produce new ideas as they become self-directed learners who are competent in thinking, research, and communications.

The Advanced Academics Department also works to promote college awareness and college preparation through Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID), and to provide access to college entrance testing opportunities (PSAT, SAT & ACT) throughout the school year.
