Welcome!
I read that one of the administrators at Harvard (when asked what students should read to prepare them for an Ivy League college) said that students reading should be measured "by the pound." That is my philosophy! I believe that my most important job as the librarian at Albright is to have the books our students want to read during the small window of time they are excited to read their materials of choice! The more students read, the better readers they will be and the more enjoyable reading will be for them. Preparing students for the 21st Century includes helping them be literate and curious! Viva les livres!
I love fantasy books. Come and talk about some of your favorites!
No, I do not believe books will ever die! Just like the "Y2K" hysteria I believe it will come to almost nothing. Books are too convenient, portable, available and inexpensive to ever be replaced by I-Books. I love being able to scan pages on a computer to find a particular quotes, listen to books in my car and watch what screenwriters do with a book. And I'd love to try out a Kindle! But I also like to just READ!
Other Roles: Facilitator for SDC, mentor, part of the wonderful teams of specialists and leaders.
About Me
Hometown: Born Harlingen, TX. I was an Air Force Brat so I have lived in Germany, Massachusettes, Mississippi, Philippeans, Okinawa, then to Austin during high school and college. I have been in Houston for 15 years. I now live in Tomball. Education: BS in Education/Math at UT. MS is Library and Information Science at UT. Coursework for Ed.D. (ABD) UH. Other Careers: Waitress, afterschool child care provider, I worked in public libraries for 11 years as a page, clerk, telephone information researcher, children's program technician and TQM facilitator. Teaching Experience: Teacher, professor/librarian at a university, and a librarian at an elementary school in CFISD before finding my home here at Albright! Educational Philosophy: No one likes to do things that are boring. The trick is what is "depth" to one person is "boring, unnecessary information" to another. I think the best teachers are "diagnostic" and change their style to keep everyone engaged and that is my goal. Interests: Reading, swimming, spending time with family and friends, baking (especially sugar-free stuff), solving Sudoku puzzles, spending time at our dream home (who would have thought I would find it in Tomball!) What I expect from my students: We are a team. I am happy to help! And I hope you plan to participate as well! There is so much going on in the library. Come and see!
